Records Request
The Records Department has specific policies and procedures regarding the release of reports to maintain compliance with Colorado state statutes (CRS 24-72-301 et seq). Release of records dependent on a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to: type of report, status of the investigation, age of the individual(s) involved .
Colorado state statutes prohibit the general release of reports or information relating to at-risk adults, juveniles, and on-going police investigations. In some instances, the released report may have information redacted.

Filing a Records Request
Download and complete the proper form found in the sidebar. Completed forms can be faxed, mailed, or hand-delivered to the Records Office located at 506 E Main Street in Aspen, CO.
No reports will be released without a signed and completed request form and payment of the appropriate fees. Call 970-429-1852 if you would like to pay by credit card.
Accident Reports
Accident reports can be obtained in two ways:
- CrashDocs: an internet site where you can instantly download a copy of your completed accident report.
- Directly from the Aspen Police Department using the Accident Report Request Form.
Arrest History/Background Check
The Records Department can provide an arrest history listing of all arrests made specifically by the Aspen Police Department for a named individual. The fee for this service is $10. The Aspen Police can not run state and federal background checks.
State & Federal Records
- Visit the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s website or contact CBI at 303-239-4300 to acquire a statewide background check.
- Visit the FBI website to obtain your personal FBI Identification Record.
