Food Tax Refund Now OnlineAspen, Colorado – February 6, 2018 – Aspen residents who lived within the city limits for the entire year of 2017 and are registered voters are eligible for a Food Sales Tax Refund, including their dependents. Residents 65 or older and residents that are legally blind are eligible for additional refund payments. For the first time, applicants may fill out and submit the application online, making the process easier and more accessible.All applicants are required to be a registered voter in the City of Aspen by 1/1/17 to qualify for the Food Sales Tax Refund. Limited exceptions for persons barred from registering to vote may qualify.The City created Food Sales Tax Refunds as an incentive to encourage voters to support a sales tax referendum. It was intended to reimburse voters for the approximate amount of sales tax that they would pay annually on grocery purchases due to the imposition of a 1% City sales tax.To find out more information, or to complete an application, visit the website here.
