City Offices Construction Update for April 25, 2019
The following project update is a routine announcement regarding activities, impacts and progress for the new City Offices construction.
Phase IIA right-of-way utility work from Mill St. to the west of the parking garage entrance is expected to be completed on schedule. The week of April 29, crews will shift to Phase IIB work.
Please see below for updated routes and impact information.
Phase II, which includes new and upgraded infrastructure, is anticipated to wrap up in early June. Construction will be on a hold during Food & Wine and the July 4th holiday, and then will resume mid-summer with building construction.
Traffic and Parking Impacts:
The week of April 29, the Rio Grande Pl. street closure will be shifted east, and Rio Grande Pl. will be closed from the east side of the parking garage entrance to Founders Place (east of Tasters Pizza). This section of road is expected to remain closed 24/7 until the beginning of June. The date of this routing change will be announced via the NotifyMe update.
Due to the road closure shift on Rio Grande Pl., access to the parking garage will be modified. Motorists will enter the garage via N. Mill Street (upper/west entrance) and will exit the garage via Rio Grande Pl. to Mill St. (lower/north entrance). There will be no access to the parking garage via Spring St.
All street parking along Rio Grande Pl. is closed and will remain closed through the beginning of June. Expect periodic parking closures in several spaces in the Rio Grande Parking Garage during Phase II construction.
Announcement from the Parking Department:
As part of regularly scheduled annual parking garage striping a full garage closure will be required. The garage will close at approximately 6 PM on Friday, May 17 and is anticipated to reopen by 12 PM (noon) on Sunday, May 19. For questions please call the parking department at 970-920-5267.
Bus, Pedestrian and Bicyclist Impacts:
- The blue staircase connecting Rio Grande Place and the plaza (staircase west of Tasters) is anticipated to have intermittent closures. During closures, please use Jail Trail for access.
Intermittent closures of the west parking garage staircase (connecting the parking garage and housing/bank access) are anticipated.
The south sidewalk along Rio Grande Place remains closed, please follow detour signage. The north sidewalk (on the Rio Grande Park side) remains open.
At a later June date, construction activities will require a full closure of the lower section of the staircase (between Rio Grande Pl. and Parking Garage level 2). The date of this closure is to be determined, but the lower section of the staircase will close for the remaining duration of building construction, anticipated to be complete by summer of 2021.
